Te Ika-a-Māui / North Island

, ,

Glaciers on Te Ika-a-Māui / North Island are exceptionally rare given the latitude and the aspect and temperature.  There are only eight (8) permanent glaciers situated on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu (2797m).  Mt Ruapehu is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of the Taupō Volcanic Zone, and is the highest peak on Te Ika-a-Māui / North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.
