The Wigley Glacier is a glacier in the Te Tai Poutini / West Coast region of the Te Waipounamu / South Island of Aotearoa / New Zealand.

It has a latitude of -43.402406 and a longitude of  170.352141 and it’s status is: Official Assigned.

Named after the Wigley family who were early pioneers at the Hermitage. They pioneered motor transport and ski plane development. Sir Henry Rudolf of Timaru was long associated with alpine flying in New Zealand. He pioneered the use of ski-equipped planes for rescue, mountaineering, and tourist purposes in this country. Gaz notice says “Totare” Range not “Tatare” Range. There was debate about getting another glacier in which Sir Harry Wigley apparently “discovered” from the air named after the Wigleys but this did not eventuate. His son Rudolpf introduced skiing to South Island and was the first to climb Aoraki/Mount Cook in winter.

It’s geographical description is noted as: Glacier at join of Tatare and Gunn Ranges.
