This glacier was named by J T Crozier, who was keenly interested in the work of Swiss theologians. The glacier was named after Eduard Thurneysen, an eminent Swiss theologian and friend of compatriot Karl Barth, for whom the adjacent Mt Barth is known. Previously named Thurneyson Glacier.
