Name is associated with other features in the region such as Abbot, Abbess, Monastery Peak, The Nuns Veil etc. Tentatively named Mitre Glacier in 1953 by Mrs M Davidson, but this was not accepted by the NZGB
It’s geographical description is noted as: The glacial feature immediately west of The Abbot (peak) on the Liebig Range.
