Name submitted in September 1969 by the Canterbury Chief Surveyor after research in connection with the revision of NZMS1 S72.
Originally submitted by Canterbury Mountaineering Club in May 1941, and resubmitted by Alwyn Chin in June 1963, the name was disallowed on both occasions.
It is a large icefield mentioned frequently in Canterbury Mountaineer and was an established name.
It’s geographical description is noted as: Icefield between the Beelzebub Glacier and Lambert Glacier. Blocks III and IV Tyndall Survey District.
