Name submitted by Mr Paul Powell of Dunedin for inclusion on maps in a book Men Aspiring that he had written. Mr Powell had a 24 year association with the area.

The name is descriptive and fits in with aerial associations of this part of the country.

It’s geographical description is noted as: Narrow neck of ice between Bonar Glacier and Maud Francis Glacier on the northwest face of Mount Avalanche. Matukituki Survey District. Feature shown on: NZMS260 F39 Edition 1 1993 Reprinted 1995.
